NIGS Community Engages in Gender Sensitivity and Anti-Sexual Harassment Seminars

The National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) conducted seminars aimed at promoting gender sensitivity and addressing sexual harassment, with active engagement from administrative staff, faculty, researchers, and students.


On 21 June 2024, a Gender Sensitivity Training and Anti-Sexual Harassment Seminar took place at the Institute’s Multipurpose Room. Organized in collaboration with the UP Diliman Gender Office (UPDGO) and the Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment (OASH), the seminar focused on challenging biases and gender stereotypes while equipping participants with essential knowledge about anti-sexual harassment policies. Attendees learned about the importance of respecting individuals of all gender identities and strategies to prevent and address sexual harassment in the workplace. The session began with discussions on the significance of gender sensitivity and the prevalence of sexual harassment, emphasizing the legal and ethical responsibilities of organizations to maintain a safe work environment.

Following this, on 05 July 2024, a similar seminar was conducted for students to prepare them for their upcoming fieldwork. This session aimed to deepen their understanding of gender sensitivity and anti-sexual harassment measures, utilizing practical applications and real-world scenarios. Students engaged in interactive activities and discussions, reflecting on personal experiences and exploring ways to foster a more inclusive and respectful campus environment. The facilitators also reviewed the effectiveness of current anti-sexual harassment policies and explored additional strategies for improvement.

Both seminars demonstrated NIGS's commitment to promoting gender sensitivity and combating sexual harassment. The involvement and feedback from participants highlighted the importance of these initiatives, laying a strong foundation for ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all members of the NIGS community.
