The National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS) conducted a Psychological First Aid Training for its faculty, REPS, and administrative staff on 17 February 2025 at NIGS Multipurpose Room. The training aimed to equip personnel with essential skills to provide immediate psychological support to distressed individuals.
The program started with facilitators introducing the participants to the basic principles of early psychological techniques, focusing on preparation, observation, and response techniques to help those individuals going through stress.
The training covered the policies and processes, including how you can listen to students sharing their problems and determine the seriousness of the problem. The goals of psychological first aid were also discussed to help participants understand the importance of providing a safe space for individuals in distress.
Facilitators trained participants on recognizing warning signs of psychological distress to know how to respond and ensure proper referrals, focusing on distinguishing between different levels of risk.
The training concluded with the faculty, REPS, and administrative staff becoming well-equipped to provide psychological first-aid to align with NIGS goal of having a safe and supportive environment.
