UP Geological Society

Updated: Apr 19

During the first quarter of 2024, the University of the Philippines Geological Society (UP GeoSoc) undertook several activities which include the comeback of the Valentines-themed Make the Luv-A Flow, the completion of the 23A application process, and preparations for the much-anticipated face-to-face return of the National Geology Congress scheduled for April.

Luv-A

UP GeoSoc began its series of events this year by conducting the Make the Luv-A Flow (or Luv-A) from February 28 to March 1 at the National Institute of Geological Sciences. The event aimed not only to celebrate the month of love but also to support small-scale businesses by providing them with a platform to sell their products. Items such as stickers, plushies, and pastries were made available to students, teachers, and staff at the institute.

23A Application Process

The 23A application process, themed "Core!" also concluded on March 16 to 17 at the Green Haven Resort in Quezon City, marking an important milestone for UP GeoSoc as they welcome new members to the organization.

Face-to-face Comeback of NGC

On April 5 and 6, UP GeoSoc will conduct its flagship event, the National Geology Congress (NGC). The NGC aims to equip high school teachers and students with the necessary tools for discussing and integrating both the discipline and practice of geology. This year's NGC will consist of three sub-events, namely, ARETE: Earth Science Teachers' Seminar, TALAGHAY: High School Workshop, and GEOQUIZ: An Earth Science Competition. With over 200 participants expected to attend, this year's NGC promises to be a worthwhile and highly enriching experience.
