Undergraduate students receive the Dr. George C. Bacuta Thesis Grant

Three (3) undergraduate students are this year's recipients of the Dr. George C. Bacuta Undergraduate Thesis Grant.

Cluster 2: CEDIÑO, LEANDRO CEASAR, AGUILAR

Thesis Adviser: Jillian Aira S. Gabo-Ratio, D.Eng.

Cluster 3: AFRICA, ANGELICA JOY, GUILING

Thesis Adviser: Noelynna T. Ramos. D.Sc.


The thesis grant was awarded on 23 April 2024 at the NIGS Admin Office.

Dr. George C. Bacuta, Jr. is an alumnus of UP Geology who worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans. He passed away on 31 October 2020. His work with the Philippine Bureau of Mines and collaboration with the US Geological Survey led to graduate studies at Cornell University where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geological Sciences and Engineering.


The geologist in Dr. Bacuta looked for gems in this earth to shape our warm, wonderful world through small good deed.
