Talk: Marine magnetics in complex basins – what we learned from the Caribbean

Dr. Jérôme Dyment from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, France visited the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) on October 2, 2023. He presented a talk titled “Marine Magnetics in Complex Basins – What We Learned from the Caribbean” as part of the Rushurgent Working Group (RWG) laboratory seminars. His talk provided insights on identifying magnetic reversals by analyzing magnetic anomalies and using this information to date and understand the structure and evolution of ocean basins. Graduate and undergraduate students from NIGS and the Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering attended the talk. Future collaborations between the Philippines and France in studying the Philippine marginal basins were also expressed during his visit.
