Dr. Gabo-Ratio presented her research work titled “Geology, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry of Bauxite deposits in the Philippines: Case Study from the Paranas Deposit, Samar Island.” This presentation forms part of her ongoing DOST-funded research project in partnership with the UP Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (UP-DMMME).

Her undergraduate advisees also presented their theses on gold mineralization. Ms. Venus Tagle, a recent graduate, presented her research on alkali-hosted epithermal deposit in Cordon, Isabela. The title of her presentation is “Epithermal Mineralization Characteristics of the Alkaline-Hosted Deposit in San Luis, Cordon, Isabela, Philippines.” Mr. Ramuel Ramos, also a recent graduate and currently an instructor and an MS Geology student presented “Mineralization Characteristics and Ore-Forming Conditions of the Adit 9 Area, Marian Gold Deposit, Northern Luzon, Philippines”. Mr. Kirk Justin Ramos, a BS Geology student presented his research titled “Epithermal Mineralization Characteristics of the Andrea Vein, Kematu Gold Deposit, Tboli, South Cotabato, Philippines”.

Dr. Gabo-Ratio and her students presented their research at the 14th AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Geological and Geo-resources Engineering (RCGeoE) & the 2nd International Conference on Earth Resources and Geo-Environment Technology 2023 (EraGET2023) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Mr. Mark Joshua Novero is an MS student whose research interest is in the sedimentary geochemistry of the Balili Formation in Mountain Province. He presented his findings on his research with the title “Unlocking clues on the provenance of the lower member of the Balili Formation, Northern Luzon, Philippines using sedimentary geochemistry and petrology”. Mr. Kenneth Jan Sangalang is currently a Project Research Assistant (PRA) and at the same time an MS Geology student who is working on sedimentary geochemistry in Pangasinan. He presented his current research entitled “Determining paleoclimatic signatures of Neogene clastic units overlying the Zambales Ophiolite Complex (ZOC) in Luzon, Philippines using geochemical proxies”. Mr. Marco Alfredo Barrientos is an MS student and an instructor at NIGS. He presented “Co, Ni, and Sc enrichment in the Cagdianao Nickel Laterite deposit, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte, Philippines” which forms part of Dr. Gabo-Ratio's OVPAA ECWRG research grant.

Mr. Novero, Mr. Sangalang, and Mr. Barrientos presented their research at the 3rd International Conference on Geological Engineering and Geosciences (ICGoES) 2023 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
