Undergraduate students from the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) participated in a fieldwork expedition for their Geology 135 class from May 4-6, 2024. The fieldwork took place in Brgy. Damortis, Santo Tomas, La Union, and Bolinao, Pangasinan. The expedition was supervised by Professor Dr. Alyssa M. Peleo-Alampay, along with instructor Mr. Meyrick Tablizo and teaching associates Mr. David Policarpio and Mr. Justin Jorge Padre.

During the fieldwork, the Geology 135 students observed various rock layers with distinct lithological characteristics and fossil assemblages at a coastal outcrop in La Union. In Pangasinan, they examined living specimens as modern analogs of previously observed invertebrate fossils, both in the field and in class. This hands-on experience is integral to the Geology 135 curriculum, as it familiarizes students with both modern and fossil carbonate environments, which are prevalent in the country.
